Christmas Bazaar
Our Christmas Bazaar is fast approaching. It will be held on Saturday, November 9, 2013. This is a parish event and we would like everyone to participate. If everyone does something to contribute to the Bazaar, it will be a great success.
We are planning to have treasures, jewellery, Christmas decorations, baking, preserves, Toonie Table, and a silent auction.
When you think about these tables, please think of something that you could contribute. Make some extra preserves, donate that piece of jewellery that you no longer wear and someone else would just love, buy a small bottle of wine for the Toonie Table. Perhaps you even have something for the Treasure Table. We also need donations for the silent auction.
It isn’t too early to be thinking and getting ready for this event as it will be here before we know it.
Questions? Call Gayle Anderson @ 519-471-1851 or Judy Brown @ 519 681–6795

Bishops’ Friends
It is not too late to join the London Area Bishops’ Friends for the 2013 season. Members are men and women in the diocese who are committed to supporting the outreach ministry the Bishops provide to clergy and clergy families. For more information, contact Bette Ferguson (baferg@sympatico.ca) or review the Bishops’ Friends section on the diocesan website (http://www.diohuron.org/what/episcopal/friends.php).
Become a member and join us November 13 at 5:30pm at the Sunningdale Golf Club for dinner to support this important ministry.

Bible Study
Would you like to increase your biblical knowledge and strengthen your spiritual journey? The weekly Bible Study will resume on Thursday, September 19 in the Guild Room. An enthusiastic and faithful group of around 16 members under the leadership of the Reverend Ruth Ferrier will be studying John, Chapters 10 to 21. Newcomers are always welcome.

Cathedral Tours
Members of the Tour Guild at St. Paul’s are an interested group of parishioners, who are offering tours the first Sunday of each month after the 10:00am service. This is a wonderful chance for visitors and parishioners to learn about various attractions at the Cathedral: the Tiffany windows, the outstanding embroideries, the wonderful wooden ceiling and carvings, the plaques commemorating the former military connections, etc.
At times, outside groups contact the office to arrange a tour. If you belong to a group that would like an interesting tour of London’s oldest church, arrangements can be made by contacting the church office. During the past few months there have been tours for various outside groups – all guided by members of the tour guild.

If you or someone you know is going through a separation or divorce, please tell them about our DivorceCare program so that they don’t have to go through this difficult time alone. Evening Women’s Group
The Evening Women’s Group, which is a group of ladies who work outside the home, (and some retired) will resume their meetings with a potluck on September 10th @ 6:00pm for 6:30pm in the Assembly room. We will be planning the year’s activities at this meeting, one of which will be a theatre outing. Our meetings are usually the second Tuesday of each month from September until June.
Please feel free to join us for an enjoyable and relaxing evening.
For more information, please contact Gayle Anderson through the church office.

Card, Telephone & Flower Ministry
The Card, Telephone & Flower Ministry has been established as a part of the overall Outreach Ministry of the Cathedral. As many of you are aware we have a number of more senior members within our parish, of whom several are actually shut-in. In an attempt to assure our members that they are not forgotten, we have been making contact through either a card sent, a telephone call, or flowers delivered. We have also been recognizing specific situations for all our members such as hospitalization, anniversaries of baptisms or losses, and other milestones or situations in people’s lives.
We currently have a number of volunteers for the Card, Telephone and Flower Ministry. If you feel you would like to be a part of this important ministry work or you know of someone in the parish who could benefit from our contact, please feel free to call Virginia at (519) 434-3225, x204. We thank those who continue to volunteer their time to this valuable and important outreach ministry.

Pastoral Care Visitation Team
Appreciating the size of the Cathedral in terms of the number of parishioners and the reality that we only have one paid Clergy person on staff, it was felt that we could benefit from having a group of trained parishioners to engage in some of the pastoral visitation. Within this past year we have now trained seven Cathedral parishioners in terms of the skills needed to engage in pastoral visiting and these seven individuals have now been making contact with some of our homebound and/or sick parishioners to ensure that they have not been forgotten and that their spiritual needs are being responded to. Several of our Pastoral Vistiation Team have also now been licensed by the Bishop as Eucharistic Ministers, so they are now able to take the Reserve Sacrament to those unable to attend services in the church. If you know of any parishioners that could benefit from a visit from one of our Pastoral Visitation Team, please feel free to contact Virginia at (519) 434-3225, x 204. The following individuals have volunteered to serve as your Pastoral Visitation Team: Douglas Campbell, Gary Davies, Harry Finnis, Kim Lumpkin, Jean Nurse, Lynn Prentice, and Roland Vishnu. We thank them for their commitment to this ministry.

Strawberry Social
The annual Strawberry Social was held on Wednesday June 26th. Our guests arrived in anticipation of the 2:00pm event and entered a beautifully decorated Cronyn Hall to the fabulous music played by Angus Sinclair at the piano. Our guests enjoyed iced tea from our lovely collection of tea cups, a bowl of fresh local strawberries, baked goods and fellowship.
This year we welcomed four more parishioners into the “90 Plus Club” – Daphne Baker, Waler Bell, Tom Hawke and Therese Lacaille. They were honoured with a 90 Plus Club certificate signed and presented by Dean Kevin as well as red roses presented by Bette Ferguson on behalf of our parish family.
Our most sincere thanks to all who worked so hard to make this event so enjoyable and successful. We look forward to seeing a great turnout again next year, please save the date: Wednesday June 25, 2014. This is a parish event and we look forward to welcoming all members of the parish family.

Do you enjoy knitting? Or would you like to learn? Knitting For Peace will start meeting again on Saturday, September the 7. We meet weekly from 10:00am until 12:00pm. We will start the fall session by knitting various items for the 1440 Random Acts of Kindness in 24 Hours that is taking place in Victoria Park on October 5. Knitters of all abilities are welcome, so even if you have never knit before, come on out and learn! Donations of yarn are always appreciated. Refectory Luncheons
Once again we welcome parishioners (and friends) to our Sunday “after church” luncheons. We are planning an international flavour for the lunches this fall.
Join us for good food and lively chats.
October 20 – the luncheon will feature French cuisine
November 17 – our choice will be Italian
December 15 – there will be a Canadian menu
Tickets ($12 each) are sold on the 2 Sundays before the luncheons. Menus are posted at that time.
$2 from each sale is sent to the Cathedral treasurer to be placed in a special fund for “Renewing the Kitchen”. We are continuing to accumulate funds for the updating of the kitchen appliances. Additional donations are always welcome – income tax receipts available for any donation of $10 or more.
The “still having fun” Committee – Ann Tonkin, Jane Korhonen, Florence Perkes, Jean Willadsen, Bette Ferguson.

In the News
For the second consecutive year, St. Paul’s has participated in a government program designed to provide summer employment for high-school students. Through this program, we’ve been able to provide a full-time tour guide over the summer months, thus keeping the doors to our historic cathedral open.
This year, CTV News became interested in the story and aired a short article.

Sundays @ 9
In the popular imagination, Christianity is in decline. But this is more myth than truth. Today, as Christianity seems to decline in Europe and North America, it is booming in Africa, Asia, and Latin America. If we wish to picture a typical practicing Anglican today, we should think of a woman in Nigeria. By 2025, half of all Christians will live in Africa and Latin America; the largest concentration of Christians in the world will be in Sub-Saharan Africa. What does this mean for North American Anglicans? What implications does it hold for the future of Christianity?

St. Peter & St. Paul Service
Annually, the cathedral congregations of St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Cathedral Basilica and St. Paul’s Anglican Cathedral come together for a joint service of worship. In the past, this service has been at the end of June. Instead, this year, the service will be held on Wednesday, October 16 at 7:00pm. The service will be held at St. Paul’s Cathedral with Dean Kevin Dixon officiating and Deacon Len Hughes of St. Peter’s preaching. The service’s theme will focus on the social work our two cathedrals undertake together in London’s downtown. Following the service, refreshments and a tour of the Daily Bread Food Bank and Fellowship Centre will be offered.
